A simple yet elegant dark chocolate bark decorated with edible gold foil and graduation-themed decorations, perfect for celebrations and easy to make in about 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces (340g) high-quality dark chocolate chips or chopped bars (70% cacao or higher recommended)
  • Edible gold foil sheets or flakes, food-grade
  • Graduation-themed decorations such as edible confetti, tiny stars, or custom sugar sprinkles in school colors
  • Pinch of sea salt flakes (optional but recommended)
  • Chopped nuts such as pistachios or almonds, toasted lightly (optional)
  • Flavor add-ins (optional): a few drops of pure vanilla extract or a dash of espresso powder

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat and gather all ingredients.
  2. Melt the dark chocolate using a double boiler over simmering water, stirring frequently until smooth (about 5-7 minutes), or microwave in 30-second intervals stirring between each until fully melted.
  3. Stir in vanilla extract or espresso powder if using.
  4. Pour melted chocolate onto the lined baking sheet and spread evenly into a rectangle about 1/4 inch (6 mm) thick using an offset spatula or butter knife.
  5. While chocolate is still warm, gently lay edible gold foil sheets across the surface and add graduation-themed sprinkles and nuts if desired, pressing lightly to stick.
  6. Lightly sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt over the top.
  7. Chill the baking sheet in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or until the chocolate is fully set and firm.
  8. Remove from fridge and carefully peel the bark off the mat or parchment paper.
  9. Break the bark into irregular pieces by hand or with a sharp knife.
  10. Serve at room temperature or package for gifting.

Notes

Avoid overheating chocolate to prevent seizing; stir continuously while melting. Use clean, dry hands or tweezers to handle delicate gold foil. Chilling the bark fully is essential for clean breaking. Toast nuts lightly for extra crunch and aroma. Variations include adding a white chocolate layer, using nut-free toppings, or adding spices like cinnamon or chili powder.
