These colorful lightsaber pretzel rods are a fun, crunchy, and sweet snack perfect for kids and parties. They are easy to make with simple ingredients and customizable candy melt colors and sprinkles.

Ingredients

  • Pretzel rods (regular or gluten-free)
  • Candy melts (choose your favorite colors: blue, green, red, yellow, purple)
  • Sprinkles (rainbow nonpareils, star-shaped sprinkles, edible glitter, or sanding sugar)
  • White chocolate chips (optional, for lightening colors or marbled effects)
  • Vegetable oil or shortening (optional, 1 teaspoon to thin candy melts)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by lining a baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper.
  2. Place about 1 cup (6 oz or 170g) of candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl.
  3. Heat candy melts in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and fully melted (about 2–3 minutes total).
  4. If candy melts are too thick, stir in 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil or shortening to thin the coating.
  5. Hold each pretzel rod by one end and dip it about two-thirds of the way into the melted candy, twisting slightly to coat evenly.
  6. Let excess candy drip back into the bowl. Reheat candy melts briefly if coating starts to harden while dipping.
  7. Immediately sprinkle chosen toppings over the wet candy coating so sprinkles stick before the coating sets.
  8. Place dipped pretzels on the prepared baking sheet and allow to sit at room temperature for 15–20 minutes until the coating is firm.
  9. For faster setting, refrigerate dipped pretzels for 5–10 minutes.
  10. Repeat melting, dipping, and decorating with other candy melt colors to create a full batch.
  11. Optional: Pipe contrasting candy melts on the handle end or add edible metallic paint for a shiny effect.

Notes

Use microwave in short bursts of 30 seconds and stir well to avoid burning candy melts. Thin candy melts with a teaspoon of vegetable oil or shortening for smoother dipping. Work quickly to add sprinkles before coating sets. Store pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature to keep them crisp. Avoid refrigeration to prevent sogginess. Double-dip for thicker coating and more vibrant colors.
