  • ¾ cup (180ml) warm water
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil
  • 1012 almonds
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) water
  • Optional marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine 2 ¼ teaspoons of active dry yeast, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and ¾ cup of warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and the activated yeast mixture. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 3-4 minutes.
  4. Let the dough rest: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise for 30 minutes.
  5. Shape the fingers: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Divide the dough into 10-12 pieces and roll each into a thin finger shape. Pinch the dough in two places to mimic knuckles and score lightly with a knife for texture.
  6. Add the almonds: Press an almond into the tip of each finger to create a fingernail.
  7. Brush with egg wash: In a small bowl, whisk 1 egg with 1 tablespoon of water. Brush the egg wash over the breadsticks for a golden finish.
  8. Bake: Place the fingers on a lined baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
