Thanksgiving leftover wontons - featured image

Golden, crispy wontons stuffed with savory Thanksgiving leftovers like turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce, fried or baked to perfection. A creative way to transform holiday leftovers into a delicious snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

  • Wonton wrappers
  • Leftover turkey (shredded or diced)
  • Stuffing (any type)
  • Cranberry sauce (whole berry or jelly)
  • Mashed potatoes (optional)
  • Egg (lightly beaten for sealing)
  • Cooking oil (vegetable or canola)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine shredded turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mashed potatoes (if using). Mix until evenly combined.
  2. Set up your workstation: Lay out the wonton wrappers, a small bowl of beaten egg, and your filling mixture. Keep everything within reach for easy assembly.
  3. Assemble the wontons: Place 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Use your finger to brush the edges of the wrapper with beaten egg. Fold the wrapper diagonally to form a triangle and press the edges to seal tightly.
  4. Heat the oil: Add about 2 inches of oil to a frying pan and heat to 350°F (175°C). If baking, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  5. Cook the wontons: Fry wontons in small batches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden and crispy. If baking, arrange on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  6. Drain and serve: Remove fried wontons with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Don’t overfill the wontons to avoid bursting during cooking. Seal edges tightly with egg wash. For a healthier option, bake instead of frying.
