Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 lb pork shoulder (pork butt)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Slider buns (brioche or Hawaiian rolls)
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage (green and purple)
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rub the pork shoulder with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and brown sugar until evenly coated.
  2. Mix BBQ sauce, chicken broth, and apple cider vinegar in a bowl and pour over the seasoned pork.
  3. Cook the pork in a slow cooker on low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-5 hours. Alternatively, cook in a Dutch oven at 300°F (150°C) for about 4 hours.
  4. Remove the pork from the cooking vessel and shred it using two forks.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, honey, and apple cider vinegar. Add salt and pepper to taste. Toss with shredded cabbage and carrots to make the slaw.
  6. Toast slider buns lightly if desired. Add pulled pork to the bottom bun, top with slaw, and place the top bun. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use a well-marbled pork shoulder for maximum tenderness. Toast slider buns for added texture. Let the slaw sit for 10-15 minutes to meld flavors.
