A spooky twist on the classic Caprese salad, featuring mozzarella eyeballs, vibrant tomatoes, and fresh basil—perfect for Halloween parties.

Ingredients

  • Fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine, about 1 inch in diameter)
  • Cherry or grape tomatoes
  • Black olives, sliced thinly
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Balsamic glaze (optional)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil
  • Optional: Red food coloring

Instructions

  1. Drain and pat dry the mozzarella balls with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  2. Slice the black olives thinly to form pupils for the eyeballs.
  3. Place an olive slice onto each mozzarella ball using a toothpick or your fingers. Press gently to secure.
  4. Halve the cherry or grape tomatoes and arrange them on your serving platter.
  5. Place the mozzarella eyeballs on top of the tomato halves, using the tomatoes as the base for the eyeballs.
  6. Tuck fresh basil leaves around the eyeballs for a pop of green.
  7. Lightly drizzle olive oil and balsamic glaze over the salad. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Optional: Add a few drops of red food coloring to the olive oil for a blood-like effect.
