Fudgy brownies with a delicate cream cheese spider web design, perfect for Halloween parties and celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (120g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8 oz (226g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  6. In another bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture onto the brownie batter. Use a toothpick to draw lines outward from the center of each dollop, creating a spider web design.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the brownies comes out with moist crumbs.
  9. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before removing and slicing into squares.

Notes

[‘To ensure fudgy brownies, avoid overbaking. Check for moist crumbs on the toothpick instead of waiting for it to come out clean.’, ‘Use room-temperature eggs for a smoother batter—they combine more easily with the melted butter.’, ‘Don’t skip the parchment paper—it makes removing the brownies a breeze and prevents sticking.’, ‘When drawing the spider web, work quickly before the cream cheese mixture sets. A steady hand helps, but don’t stress about perfection.’, ‘If you’re doubling the recipe, use a larger pan and adjust the baking time accordingly—start checking at the 40-minute mark.’]
