A unique twist on classic baklava, combining sweet maple syrup, salty bacon, and crunchy pecans for a showstopping dessert perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

  • Phyllo Dough (thawed according to package instructions)
  • Unsalted Butter (melted)
  • Pecans (chopped)
  • Bacon (crispy and crumbled)
  • Maple Syrup
  • Brown Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Water
  • Lemon Juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C) and grease your baking dish with butter.
  2. In a bowl, mix the chopped pecans, crumbled bacon, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. Place one sheet of phyllo dough in the baking dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat with about 6 sheets, buttering each layer.
  4. Sprinkle a layer of the pecan-bacon mixture evenly over the buttered phyllo.
  5. Add another 6 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter, then repeat the filling layer. Continue until the ingredients are used, ending with a final layer of phyllo dough.
  6. Using a sharp knife, gently cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
  7. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
  8. In a saucepan, combine maple syrup, water, and lemon juice. Heat over medium until it simmers, then reduce to low and cook for 10 minutes.
  9. Once the baklava is out of the oven, immediately pour the warm syrup evenly over the top. Allow it to soak for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
  10. Lift slices carefully from the dish and enjoy!

Notes

Keep phyllo dough covered with a damp towel while layering to prevent drying out. Use thick-cut bacon for a more pronounced flavor and crunch. Be patient with the syrup soaking process for maximum flavor absorption.
