A bold and indulgent breakfast recipe combining churro-inspired flavors with the comforting vibe of French toast. Perfect for cozy mornings or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of brioche or challah bread, cubed (day-old bread works best!)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for churro coating)
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon (for churro coating)
  • Powdered sugar (optional topping)
  • Maple syrup (optional topping)
  • Caramel sauce (optional topping)
  • Whipped cream (optional topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your baking dish with butter or spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Cut your bread into 1-inch cubes and spread them evenly in the baking dish.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes, pressing lightly to ensure all pieces are soaked. Let it sit for 10 minutes to absorb.
  5. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and slightly crisp.
  6. While the stuffing bakes, mix the sugar and cinnamon for the churro coating in a shallow bowl.
  7. Once baked, sprinkle the churro coating generously over the top while it’s still warm.
  8. Slice and serve with your favorite toppings like powdered sugar, maple syrup, or whipped cream.

Notes

Use day-old bread for better texture. Customize sweetness by adjusting sugar levels. Experiment with toppings like chocolate drizzle or fresh berries.
