Rich, buttery, and perfectly balanced dessert bars with nutty brown butter and caramelized pecans, ideal for sharing or savoring on your own.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, browned and cooled
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup (150g) light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) corn syrup (or pure maple syrup for a natural alternative)
  • 3 tbsp (45g) unsalted butter, browned
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (150g) pecans, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cooled brown butter and mix until crumbly. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly golden.
  3. Brown the butter in a small saucepan until golden and fragrant. In a separate bowl, whisk together brown sugar, corn syrup, eggs, vanilla, and salt. Slowly add the browned butter, whisking continuously.
  4. Fold in the chopped pecans until evenly distributed.
  5. Pour the filling over the pre-baked crust and spread evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the filling is set and slightly puffed.
  6. Let the bars cool completely in the pan (about 1–2 hours). Use the parchment overhang to lift the bars out, then slice into squares.

Notes

[‘Watch the butter closely as it browns to avoid burning.’, ‘Chill the crust for 10–15 minutes before baking to prevent shrinkage.’, ‘Use fresh pecans for the best flavor.’, ‘Let eggs sit out for 30 minutes to reach room temperature.’, ‘Use a sharp knife and wipe it clean between cuts for perfect squares.’]
