Hot Honey Fried Chicken & Candy Cane Waffles

A festive and indulgent recipe combining crispy hot honey fried chicken with sweet, peppermint-kissed candy cane waffles. Perfect for holiday brunches or cozy breakfasts.

  • 2 lbs chicken thighs and drumsticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/3 cup hot honey
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1/4 cup crushed candy canes
  • Optional toppings: Maple syrup, extra crushed candy canes, fresh mint leaves

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels.
  2. Mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl.
  3. Whisk eggs and milk in another bowl to create the egg wash.
  4. Dip each chicken piece into the egg wash, then coat in the flour mixture. Repeat for a thicker coating.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F. Fry chicken in batches for 12–15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Drain chicken on a cooling rack lined with paper towels.
  7. Drizzle hot honey over the fried chicken.
  8. Preheat waffle maker.
  9. Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  10. Combine milk, eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract in another bowl.
  11. Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients until combined. Do not overmix.
  12. Fold in crushed candy canes.
  13. Pour batter into waffle maker and cook for 3–5 minutes until golden and crisp.
  14. Repeat until all batter is used. Keep waffles warm in the oven if needed.
