This festive recipe combines crispy tater tots, savory beef, creamy sauce, and vibrant vegetables arranged in the shape of a Christmas tree—perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • Chopped parsley for garnish
  • Cherry tomatoes for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and diced onion, cooking until the beef is browned and the onions are softened (about 7-8 minutes). Drain excess grease.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cooked beef, mixed vegetables, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Stir until well blended.
  4. Spread the beef and vegetable mixture evenly across a baking sheet or casserole dish.
  5. Arrange the frozen tater tots on top in the shape of a Christmas tree. Start with a triangle outline and fill it in completely.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the tater tots. Bake for another 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
  8. Garnish the tree with parsley and cherry tomatoes to mimic ornaments. Add a star at the top by cutting a small piece of cheddar cheese into a star shape.
  9. Let the hotdish cool for 5 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

For crispier tater tots, broil the dish for 1-2 minutes at the end. Customize the tree with your favorite toppings or make ahead by preparing the filling and refrigerating overnight.
