Festive Hand Turkey Cookies

These adorable hand turkey cookies are a fun and festive treat perfect for fall gatherings, combining buttery sugar cookies with colorful decorations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (or almond extract)
  • Assorted frosting colors (red, orange, yellow, brown)
  • Mini candy eyes
  • Sprinkles and edible glitter (optional)
  • Chocolate chips or brown candies (for the turkey beak)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Trace hand shapes on paper or cardstock and cut them out to use as templates.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness and use the templates to cut out hand shapes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the hand-shaped cookies onto parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Let the cookies cool completely on wire racks.
  9. Decorate the cookies using colored frosting to pipe feathers onto each finger. Add mini candy eyes and a chocolate chip or candy for the beak. Use sprinkles or edible glitter for extra flair.

Notes

Chill the dough before cutting to prevent spreading. Use a small piping tip for detailed frosting work. Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
