Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 8 oz fresh sushi-grade salmon (thinly sliced)
  • 8 oz fresh sushi-grade tuna (thinly sliced)
  • 1 avocado (thinly sliced)
  • 1 cucumber (julienned)
  • 4 sheets of nori (seaweed)
  • Edamame beans
  • Masago or tobiko
  • Sesame seeds (white and black)
  • Radish slices
  • Fresh parsley
  • Soy sauce
  • Wasabi
  • Pickled ginger

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine rice and water in a rice cooker or pot and cook according to instructions. Once cooked, let it cool slightly.
  2. In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Gently fold this mixture into the cooked rice with a wooden spoon. Set aside to cool completely.
  3. Slice the salmon, tuna, avocado, and cucumber into thin pieces. Keep everything chilled until ready to use.
  4. Lay a nori sheet shiny-side down on the sushi mat. Spread a thin layer of rice evenly over the nori, leaving an inch of space at the top edge.
  5. Add your chosen fillings—salmon, tuna, cucumber, and avocado—along the bottom edge of the rice. Roll tightly using the mat, applying gentle pressure to shape the roll. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
  6. Slice each sushi roll into bite-sized pieces. Arrange the slices in a triangular Christmas tree shape on a large platter, starting with a wide base and tapering towards the top.
  7. Use edamame beans, masago, sesame seeds, radish slices, and parsley to create the ornaments and garlands on your sushi tree. Be creative and have fun!
  8. Pair with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger for dipping.

Notes

Keep your hands damp while handling sushi rice to prevent sticking. Assemble the sushi tree shortly before serving to keep it fresh and vibrant.
