A cozy winter dessert combining the comforting flavors of a hot toddy with the creamy decadence of tiramisu, perfect for gatherings or indulgent nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup whiskey (a smooth bourbon works beautifully)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 2 tablespoons whiskey (for soaking the ladyfingers)
  • 1618 ladyfingers (store-bought or homemade)
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (whipped to soft peaks)
  • Cocoa powder (for dusting)
  • Lemon zest (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the Hot Toddy Syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine whiskey, honey, water, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the honey dissolves. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  2. Brew the Coffee: Prepare 1 cup of strong coffee and let it cool. Stir in 2 tablespoons of whiskey for soaking the ladyfingers.
  3. Prepare the Cream Mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy (about 3 minutes). Fold in mascarpone cheese until smooth and well combined. Gently fold in the whipped cream until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  4. Layer the Tiramisu: Dip each ladyfinger briefly into the coffee-whiskey mixture, ensuring they’re soaked but not soggy. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of your baking dish.
  5. Add the Cream: Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, smoothing it out evenly.
  6. Repeat Layers: Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers and top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  7. Chill: Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  8. Finish and Serve: Just before serving, dust the top generously with cocoa powder and garnish with lemon zest if desired.

Notes

[‘Don’t over-soak the ladyfingers to prevent them from falling apart.’, ‘Whip the cream to soft peaks for the best texture.’, ‘Chill overnight for optimal flavor and texture.’, ‘Adjust the amount of whiskey to suit your taste.’, ‘Use fresh lemon juice for a brighter flavor.’]
