A quick and easy French toast recipe featuring thick-cut brioche or challah bread, creamy Nutella, and fresh banana slices, perfect for brunch or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices thick-cut brioche or challah bread
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • ½ cup (120 ml) whole milk or preferred dairy substitute
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 4 tablespoons Nutella
  • 1 large ripe banana, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large shallow bowl, whisk together 2 large eggs, ½ cup whole milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon until smooth and slightly frothy.
  2. Slice brioche or challah into 1-inch thick slices. Optionally, lightly toast if bread is very fresh.
  3. Dip each bread slice into the egg mixture, soaking about 10-15 seconds per side without oversoaking.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon unsalted butter until foamy but not browned.
  5. Cook soaked bread slices for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp on edges.
  6. Spread about 1 tablespoon Nutella evenly on each warm slice of toast.
  7. Top with fresh banana slices (about half a banana per slice).
  8. Optionally dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately.

Notes

Use thick-cut brioche or challah for best texture. Do not oversoak bread to avoid sogginess. Spread Nutella while toast is warm for best melting. Add banana slices just before serving to prevent browning. Keep cooked toast warm on a wire rack in a 200°F oven if making in batches.
