A quick and easy homemade dessert combining rich coffee, smooth Irish whiskey, and velvety mascarpone cream for a comforting and indulgent treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) freshly brewed espresso or strong coffee (dark roast recommended)
  • 2 tbsp Irish whiskey (like Jameson)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 8 oz (225 g) mascarpone cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream, cold, whipped to soft peaks
  • 1/3 cup (65 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp Irish whiskey (optional, for extra boozy cream)
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Brew 1 cup (240 ml) of espresso or very strong coffee. While still hot, stir in 2 tablespoons of brown sugar until dissolved. Let it cool to room temperature, then mix in 2 tablespoons of Irish whiskey. Set aside.
  2. In a chilled bowl, beat 1 cup (240 ml) of heavy cream with 1/3 cup (65 g) granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Be careful not to over-whip.
  3. In another bowl, gently stir the softened 8 oz (225 g) mascarpone cheese with 1 tablespoon Irish whiskey (optional) until smooth. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for 1-2 seconds per side to moisten but not soak through. Lay them in a single layer at the bottom of a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  5. Spread half of the mascarpone cream evenly over the soaked ladyfingers and smooth with a spatula.
  6. Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers, then top with the remaining mascarpone cream. Smooth the surface gently.
  7. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to let flavors meld and cream set.
  8. Just before serving, dust generously with unsweetened cocoa powder using a fine sieve. Add dark chocolate shavings if desired.

Notes

Dip ladyfingers quickly to avoid sogginess. Fold whipped cream gently into mascarpone to keep mixture airy. Use freshly brewed espresso for best flavor. Chilling overnight improves texture and flavor. For dairy-free, substitute mascarpone with coconut cream and use coconut-based whipped cream. For non-alcoholic version, omit Irish whiskey and add extra vanilla extract.
