Crispy wontons filled with a creamy burst of tangy-sweet cranberry and orange flavors, perfect as a festive appetizer or dessert for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup cranberry sauce (homemade or store-bought, thicker consistency)
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 2025 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp water (egg wash)
  • Neutral oil like vegetable or canola oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, cranberry sauce, orange zest, and powdered sugar. Mix until smooth and well-blended. Set aside.
  2. Set Up Your Workstation: Lay out the wonton wrappers on a clean surface. Keep a small bowl of water nearby for sealing the edges.
  3. Fill the Rangoons: Place about 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Be careful not to overfill.
  4. Seal the Wrappers: Dip your finger or brush into the egg wash and apply it to the edges of the wrapper. Fold the wrapper into a triangle or bring all the corners together to form a pouch. Press firmly to seal.
  5. Heat the Oil: In a frying pan, heat about 1 inch of oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Test by dropping a small piece of wonton—if it sizzles, the oil is ready.
  6. Fry the Rangoons: Carefully place the rangoons into the hot oil, a few at a time. Fry for 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
  7. Drain and Cool: Remove the fried rangoons with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Cover unused wonton wrappers with a damp towel to prevent drying out. Avoid overfilling to prevent bursting during frying. Test oil temperature to ensure even cooking.
