These bold orange and black deviled eggs are a spooky yet delicious Halloween snack, featuring creamy yolk filling and dramatic black egg whites.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs
  • Black food coloring (or activated charcoal or squid ink)
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the eggs in a medium-sized pot and cover them with water. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove the eggs and place them in an ice bath to cool.
  2. Gently peel the eggs once cooled. Tap them lightly on the counter to crack the shell and peel under running water for easier removal.
  3. Slice the eggs in half lengthwise and remove the yolks. Prepare a bowl with water and black food coloring (about 1 cup of water per 10 drops of food coloring). Soak the egg whites in the mixture for 10-15 minutes until they turn black.
  4. Mash the yolks in a mixing bowl using a fork or whisk. Add mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to taste. Mix until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  5. Remove the dyed egg whites from the coloring mixture and pat them dry with a paper towel. Spoon or pipe the yolk filling into the cavities of the egg whites.
  6. Sprinkle with extra smoked paprika or edible glitter for a festive touch. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

Use older eggs for easier peeling. Rotate the egg whites gently in the dyeing bowl for even coloring. Add a pinch of cayenne or hot sauce for a spicy twist.
