A cozy and indulgent fall dessert made with apple cider donuts, warm spices, and a creamy custard, perfect for autumn evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 68 apple cider donuts, slightly stale
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (optional for brushing the pan)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly butter a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. Slice the apple cider donuts into 1-inch pieces and arrange them evenly in the baking dish.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, apple cider, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  4. Slowly pour the custard mixture over the donuts, ensuring every piece is well-soaked. Gently press down on the donuts to help them absorb the liquid.
  5. Allow the dish to sit for 15 minutes to fully soak up the custard.
  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  7. Let the bread pudding cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
